The 2018 1 oz Lunar Year of the Dog UK silver coin by the reputed Royal Mint, from the Lunar Series, is a fitting tribute to the Chinese calendar, zodiac circle and the Oriental history and myth.

Designed by the British-Chinese artist Wuon-Gean Ho and each of the unique design is linked to one of the twelve Chinese zodiac animals and it is believed that the personality traits of the person are linked to the animal of that year.

The artist Wuon-Gean Ho uses an incredibly labour intensive design method using engraving tools and multiple designs to create the stunning coins in this series and to continue the traditional spirit of coin making.

The Royal Mint 12-year Lunar Coin Series started in 2014 and has been very popular with investors of all sizes.

The 2018 Lunar Year of the Dog coin by the Royal mint features on the obverse side, portrait of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II engraved by the Royal Mint’s chief engraver Ian-Rank Broadley and encircled by the legend ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF’ meaning ‘Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen-Defender of the Faith’. On the reverse, the design depicts a terrier (leaping joyously), much-loved breed of dog portrayed by artists for centuries.

The striking image of the dog signifies loyalty and friendship. It is believed that these attributes are shared by those born during the same year. The Dog is the eleventh symbol in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac sign. The years of the Dog include 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, 2030 and so on.

The related attributes and the symbol on the coins make them a thoughtful and considerate gift, also for anyone who is a dog lover.
